Recently, the New York Times published a coronavirus dataset that includes state and county level data. Of course my first thought was to make a map with plotly or folium ; however, after I created an interactive map that showed counties colored by the number of corona cases, I was not able to embed it in Medium. I did not want to take a screen shot of the map and insert it here as a static image. That would defeat the whole purpose of creating interactive figures. Therefore, I decided to create my own blog.

After two days of breaking my head on how to create a website, I finally manage to put something decent together. My knowledge of web development is literally zero. I know how to code in Python, Matlab, and other languages but when it comes to HTML or CSS I can tell you that the only tag I know from the top of my head is <b> LMAO <\b> . So it was quite a journey the one I embarked on Friday night after having a couple of beers.

As I’m writing this is past 10 PM on a Sunday night and I’ve to share my creation somewhere so that Google can start indexing my new site. You can visit my new personal blog here. If you click on my first post, you will see Coronavirus in Texas: A County Level Map. You can check how the coronavirus is affecting Texas at the county level using some cool interactive figures.

Until next time! Stay safe and code everyday.
